Amber Wing
Amber Wing has been one of the biggest faces in female
wakeboarding for the last four years. She was the first girl to
land a TS 720 and also the first to do so in a competition, and
since then went on land a HS 720 and a TS 900. Amber has four years
of her own pro-model wakeboard and two models of bindings with
Liquid Force. Amber is a big driving force in the designs of our
women's products.

BACKGROUND
I am the daughter of the owners of Wing Wetsuits. I grew up
waterskiing, however did not take much interest in the sport
because I was wrapped up in gymnastics and spent most of my free
time training and competing. When I was 18 and retired from
gymnastics I found wakeboarding. I loved being on the board on
water and went wakeboarding everyday. My career came together and
for the past 4 years I have been wakeboarding professionally.

What is your favorite part of being a professional wakeboarder?:
It has given opportunities to travel the world and go to places I
would have never dreamed of visiting. I love the opportunity to
teach others how to wakeboard and introduce them into the sport.
The joy on their faces when they stand up for the first time or
land a new trick spreads through the whole boat.
What does the “job” part of being a professional wakeboarder
consist of: There are definetly days when you don’t feel like being
social, sometimes don’t feel like riding for someone other than
yourself. These times you have to walk out with a smile and be
happy and take the day as a day in the office. Sometimes you don’t
feel like going in a contest but it is on, and people expect you to
ride. These are the days when the “job” part comes into play.
Places traveled to for contests/ Photo shoots/ Training: All
over the USA, Brazil, Canada, France, China, Singapore, Japan, Sth
Korea, UK, Turkey, All over Australia
Where do you think wakeboarding is going to go from where it is
now?: People are becoming a lot more creative and taking the sport
in so many directions. I am trying to introduce more women into the
sport and grow the womens side of wakeboarding by getting more
women on the water.
How has wakeboarding changed your life?: My life is totally
different to what I thought it was going to be when I was 17 yrs
old. I thought I would compete and study on a scholarship in
gymnastics at university in America, if that didn’t work out I
wanted to join circ du soleil. Neither of those happened, at 17 I
smashed my ankle to pieces training gymnastics and was introduced
to wakeboarding. Now it is my job and I call 2 different countries
home it is crazy to look back. I don’t regret a thing, and I love
my job and my life.
